Vampula

The municipality of Vampula, surrounded by corn fields and traversed by the Loimijoki River, is a pleasant resort for visitors. The nature of the municipality is characterised by clay soil and rugged yet beautiful gravel ridges dating from the ice age.

Visit Vampula - the meeting place of Satakunta and Southwest Finland!
In Vampula you can go skiing on its ridges. Numerous cross country skiing enthusiasts visit Vampula in the wintertime. They are attracted by Vampula's beautiful nature, excellent skiing tracks and numerous rest areas along the route, of which the Vampula ski chalet is one of the best. The total length of the tracks/ paths is 28 kilometres, out of which around 14 kilometres are illuminated.

The Loimijoki River flowing through Vampula provides excellent opportunities for swimming and paddling. The two-day Loimijoki paddle organised every summer starts from Ypäjä and ends in Vampula. The total length of the route is over 50 kilometres and, according to the participants, the final kilometres of the route, which go through Vampula, are the most beautiful.

The local airport is a meeting place for amateur aviators. You can also enjoy the lush landscapes from the air, because there is a private airport for small aircraft in Vampula. Thanks to the quality of its equipment, runways and services for aviators, it is considered one of the best of its kind in Finland.

History
Legend has it that the name of the municipality, Vampula, is derived from an old word in the local Köyliö dialect, vampo, meaning a plait. Ancient wanderers from Köyliö found a murdered maiden's plait in Kiltasaari, an island in the Loimijoki River that now runs through the municipality of Vampula. That is why the place became known as “Vampula”, or “the place where the plait was found”.
