Huittinen
Huittinen has been a junction for traffic routes and rivers for 7000 years. In addition to its natural setting, the town provides its visitors with culture, experiences, a variety of financial services and high-quality accommodation.
Mad about Huittinen!
Huittinen is known for its elk head, an archaeological discovery found a hundred years ago. The municipality is located on a junction for road transport so it is easily accessible. There are five beautiful rivers flowing through the municipality. The wide Kokemäenjoki River enables boating and fishing. The Puurinjärvi - Isosuo national park is located on the banks of the Kokemäenjoki River. The Puurinjärvi Lake boasts some of the richest birdlife in Southern Finland. Panoramic views over the Kokemäenjoki River and local cultural landscapes open out from the Ripovuori hill. You can also enjoy nature by hiking in the Vanhakoski Grove, which is a conservation area.
You can relax and enjoy the natural setting with a guide or on your own in Huilis, where nature and the recreation centre made of pine snag provide a setting for inspiring experiences in the wilderness. In May 2007, the Guest house Raska will open the Ryti banquet and conference premises and a reservation-only cafe in Huittinen. Accommodation is also provided. The building has been moved from Ryti's birthplace to Raskala and has been beautifully renovated, conserving the genuine spirit of Ryti's era. The church of St. Catharine, built in the 14th century, catches the eye in Huittinen. Opposite the church you will find the Huittinen local history museum. The stone building in which the museum is located used to be a granary and dates from the early 20th century. The museum has a Risto Ryti department and an art collection donated by professor and sculptor, Lauri Leppänen.
Modern art is displayed in the street Gallery Huittinen and galleriaK at aseMa. Pahkaparatiisi/ the Gnarl Paradise is a place where you can view the peculiarities of nature: during the years, Mauno Suonpää has collected 4200 gnarls that are now on display. The Pitsipirtti – Lace Cabin displays over 450 objects representing the art of lace-making. Music lovers can enjoy concerts in the Risto Ryti hall that seats more than 400 persons and which is known for its high-quality acoustics. E. g. the premiere of the opera, “Presidentti Risto Ryti,” will take place in the hall in the summer of 2007.
